Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently asked questions about Wine Coolers

1. What is the difference between a single-zone and a dual-zone wine cooler?
It all comes down to the types of wine you want to store. A single-zone wine cooler maintains one uniform temperature throughout the fridge, which is ideal if you only collect one type of wine. A dual-zone wine cooler features two independently controlled temperature sections inside the same unit. This allows you to store your full-bodied reds at their ideal temperature (around 12°C to 18°C) in one zone, while perfectly chilling your crisp whites or champagnes (around 5°C to 11°C) in the other.

2. Can I use a standard mini fridge to store wine instead?
While a standard fridge will keep wine cold, it isn't designed for proper wine preservation. Standard kitchen fridges are too cold (usually around 3°C to 5°C) and have low humidity, which can dry out corks, cause them to shrink, and let air into the bottle. Wine coolers are specifically engineered to maintain stable humidity, perfect temperature ranges, and vibration-free environments.

3. What is the benefit of UV-protected glass on a wine cooler?
Light is one of the biggest enemies of wine. Exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, from direct sunlight or harsh kitchen lighting, can cause a chemical reaction that degrades the tannins, spoils the flavour profile, and prematurely ages the wine (a problem often called 'light strike'). Most premium wine coolers feature tinted, UV-protected glass doors to completely shield your collection from harmful light while still allowing you to display your bottles beautifully.

4. Can a freestanding wine cooler be built into kitchen cabinets?
Only if the product specifications explicitly state that it is an "integrated" or "built-in" model. Freestanding wine coolers dissipate heat through their side and rear walls; if you enclose them tightly inside kitchen cabinetry, they will quickly overheat, stop cooling, and burn out the motor. Built-in wine coolers are specially engineered to vent heat forward through a grille at the bottom base, allowing them to sit flush under worktops or inside cabinet columns safely.

5. How should wine bottles be positioned inside a cooler?
For long-term storage and preservation, bottles with traditional corks should always be stored horizontally on their sides. This keeps the liquid constantly in contact with the cork, preventing it from drying out, cracking, and letting oxygen into the bottle. If you are storing screw-cap bottles or wines that you plan to open within a few days, keeping them upright or angled on display shelves is fine.
